The Assistant Vice President, Continuous Improvement is primarily responsible for leading and overseeing continuous improvement efforts for improved customer experience and operational efficiency. These individual leads collective efforts to discover new and better ways of doing things that will move the Council forward in its overall service strategy and vision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Open
- In collaboration and partnership with leadership across the organization, establish, communicate, and implement strategic and long-range goals, objectives and priorities for the Council. Calculate and take acceptable risks.
- Delegate and empower appropriately. Give appropriate recognition to others. Lead people toward meeting the Council's vision, mission, and goals.
- Consult with and keep Chief Operating Officer informed on development and implementation of all projects.
- Manage performance and professional development of direct reports.
- Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, direct reports, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral and associated organizations, etc.) to share best practices and achieve common goals.
- Facilitate cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization. Communicate and operate in an open manner so that decisions and actions are clear and visible.
Responsive
- Embrace ownership and take responsibility for the outcomes. Follow through on commitments. Be open to feedback and flexible to changing needs, priorities, and resources.
- Utilize metrics, customer surveys, and other data to gauge the success of completed projects.
- Draft annual work plans and budgets for Chief Operating Officer review and approval.
- During the year, responsible for on-time and on budget delivery.
- Participate in outreach events as needed.
Restless
- Motivate and create a high performing team of staff and volunteers (where appropriate). Include appropriate people in decision making process, consider diverse perspectives and experiences. Ensure that the Council builds on these differences to reach unbiased and well-reasoned decisions. Treat customers and employees in a fair and equitable manner.
- Reinforce organizational branding throughout the Council.
- Consistently exercise sound judgment; and, professional, expert, courteous, respectful, and responsive service to internal and external stakeholders. Have an eye for the future and take a proactive approach to position the Council for success.
Core Responsibilities – Assistant Vice President, Continuous Improvement
- Propose and implement approved strategy to develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and change management; align strategy with the goals and objectives of the Council's Strategic Plan.
- Regularly engage with each member of senior leadership to remain informed on North Stars, business plans and annual work plans to identify current and future plans for member and customer experiences, planned programmatic and operational changes, opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of business operations, and to ensure appropriate coordination of teams and resources in achieving desired goals.
- Serve as the primary business liaison between specific business channels and IS and have regular interaction between all levels of the business and IS community.
- Lead the continuous improvement team to:
- Engage leaders and front-line team members to conduct assessments of as-is conditions including processes, technology, data and metrics;
- Partner with stakeholders to design desired future state;
- Identify and manage resources required to achieve success;
- Design and oversee change management strategy within all impacted teams including support for stakeholder development of appropriate standard operating procedures, FAQs, etc. to ensure effective change management.
- Design outcome and success measures for each initiative; report same to Chief Operating Officer.
- Liaise and partner with volunteers, consultants, vendors, and other experts as appropriate to further Council services and initiatives.
- Monitor progress on objectives, features and stories and keep stakeholders informed of status, anticipated issues and risks, and problems as they develop.
- Serve in other roles as assigned to include product manager, product owner, or team member for special initiatives.
Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree related to Business, Technology, Operations or related field. Combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.
- Seven to ten years of relevant experience in analyzing business processes and operations, problem solving, and process improvement; including three to five years of management experience.
- Experience working in an Agile environment and knowledge of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency using a wide variety of software applications to include Adobe (PDF) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly collaborative communication style with the ability to speak and write well; build strong relationships; and connect with stakeholders.
- Ability to travel 10 – 20 % of time including weekends.
